Happy to be Home!
December 2016
We had a great time visiting with Jim's family and other friends in the Western NC and Eastern TN area for 2 weeks in December. It was unseasonably warm for that area, but we still put on long sleeves and pretended it was winter!

Let the Little Children Come
Nov 20, 2016
Visiting the churches of our pastors/instructors is something we enjoy, and we get a chance to see how they've put their new preaching and teaching skills to work. We were able to spend some time with the children's Sunday school class at Pastor Peter's church and were amazed at their knowledge. We had a great time with them!

Our final MKPTC class for 2016, which is the 8th overall, graduated in mid-November. It is a big accomplishment and a joyous occasion. Lots of the wives joined us, and they always brighten up the room with their beautiful outfits and wonderful voices during our praise time.

A Halloween kind of Wedding!
Janice got to travel back to the US for our daughter's wedding in the Florida Panhandle toward the end of October. Halloween happens to be Seretha and Carl's favorite holiday, so they decided to have a very casual backyard BBQ wedding using lots of Halloween decorations which they could re-use in the coming years. It was a very nice ceremony with our granddaughter Lilly standing in as bridesmaid for her mom, and new step-grandson Brent acting as best man. After 3 short days in the Panhandle, Janice drove to Oklahoma City for 5 days to visit her parents, then returned to Tanzania.

October 1-19 2016
This was a great month since we had visitors from a supporting church in the US come to visit. The two men were out in a different village or seminar every single day for the 11 days they were here, doing teaching and providing a taste of American worship music. They were real troopers in dealing with the primitive conditions they experienced each day, and the Tanzanians made them feel right at home.
We took them on a one-day safari on their last day in country, along with 10 of the pastors and their wives. Everyone had a grand time, and the nationals thanked them profusely on behalf of all those who have been trained over the last five years for the support of everyone in the US.

Sizzling in September
Jim has been burning up his tires on the highway this past month. He's run 2 full training centers, a Level 5 class, traveled to Rwanda and Uganda, and preached at church on Sundays, and coached his Ultimate Frisbee team every week. Take a look!

Family Vacation
June 13-July 13, 2016
We had the opportunity to come back to the USA for 30 days and used it specifically to spend time with our families. It is difficult to be away from them, and when we are home on regular furlough, we don't really get to spend much dedicated time with them due to ministry responsibilities. This was a blessing for all of us!

Mt. Kilimanjaro Pastors' Training Center Class 6
May 25 - June 3, 2016 We started the second session of our 6th MKPTC class at the end of May and it continued without us while we were in Nairobi. Jim arrived back for the final two days of class to find things running very smoothly. The instructors have really come into their own now. |
East Africa Staff Meeting
May 29-30, 2016 (Nairobi)
We traveled by car to Nairobi at the end of May with two of our Tanzanian ministers to meet with ICM founder, Dan Finfrock, as well as the country leaders for Kenya, Uganda, and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). We have now been given responsibility to oversee and develop the programs in these countries, so this was our first time meeting some of them.

Training for Life (TFL) Students
May 14, 2016
The 22 students, ages 18-22, whom we have been working with since January, graduated from their 3.5 month program this month. We always end up growing very close to these young people after being with them every week for that long, and its like sending more of our own kids off to college (but without the bills!). We are praying for all of them to continue their walk with the Lord.

Women's Training Center Graduation
May 13, 2016
Our third and final session of training for the women pastors was an extremely joyous occasion. We wish this class could have continued much longer, but they are so much better prepared and active now in delivering God's Word to their people.

April 5-7, Machame (Kaliwa Lodge)
We were able to take a few days away to go recharge and spent it in the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro in an area called Machame. It was very relaxing.

March 27, TFL Sports Day
We spent the day before Easter teaching the students a Swedish lawn game called Kubb, which is also known as "Viking Chess." It is a lot of fun. We also did some teaching on the Tabernacle and Temple, and meaning of Passover for Christians today.

March 14-18, Katora
Jim traveled to the NW area of TZ, around Lake Victoria, to do a Level 3 and 4 seminar. It was a 16-hr bus trip distance each way; he thought he was going to have to sleep with the chickens; and the church bldg was one of the most makeshift he's seen yet. But the Lord was in it! Six pastors were chosen to attend a future MKPTC!
